Tohana
Fatehabad is divided into 5 regions Fatehabad,
Bhuna, Bhattu, Ratia and Tohana.
Tohana town is situated at Haryana-Punjab border.
It got its name from its first inhabitant the Toor Dynasty Emperor, King
Anangpaul. Earlier Tohana was known as
Toorana but with the passage of time it became Tohana. During olden times four
things of Tohana were very famous and these were: Edible Oil Market (Ghee Ki
Mandi), Market (Bazaar Chopar), Anangsar and Jabahkhana. When
King Anangpaul was going to Delhi after winning Kabul, he stayed near Tohana.
Here he got information from his spies that King Prithviraj is making conspiracy
against him in Delhi and he will catch hold of him as soon as he'd reach Delhi.
Then King Anangpaul ordered his soldiers to make a semi circular fort which
would have saved them from attack of rivals. It is said that in middle-age these
semi-circular forts were made to stay protected from rivals attacks and this
concept was given by King Anangpaul. King
Anangpaul made a sarovar (pond used for drinking water) and a bavari (pond
used for bathing) near the fort. This bavari was three storied and had seven
underground doors and a small temple. But now only one story is remaining. A
fair on Id festival used to take place near Bhatia Nagar at Idgaah. It was
attended by all the Muslims of the region. There was a tomb near Idgaah which is
no more now. It is said that during olden times there used to be four
horse-riders in this tomb who used to deliver govt. postage. In
the outskirts of Tohana, there is Panchmukhi Shivling (five faced
shivling) which is also very old. People believe that this shivling was
established during Mahabharata period. Sh.
Yashwant Singh of Tohana has translated Indian epics "Ramayana" and
"Mahabharata" in simple and dramatic language. His style has inspired
present day writers of North India and this style is used in North Indian
Ramlilas. "Arya Sangeet Ramayana" written by him was the first version
of Dramatic Ramayana in north India. Famous poet of Urdu, Nobahar Madiya who has
been felicitated by Haryana and Uttar Pardes Govt. is also from Tohana. Sh.
Kanwal Sen Gupta of Tohana has been awarded Padamabhushan for his contribution
to agriculture. Because of his efforts Bhakhara river was turned towards Tohana
and that's why Tohana has good agriculture now.
Tohana has various religious places. There are
