Fatehabad : In the eyes of travelers

http://www.unseenindia.com/memorable_experience_details.htm#

Fatehabad, lies at a distance of about 48 kms north-west of Hisar on Delhi-Hisar-Sulemanki road. The town was founded by the Emperor Firoz Shah Tughlaq and named after his son Fateh Khan in 1352 AD. The site on which the town was founded was a hunting ground. He dug a canal from the Ghaggar River in order to supply water to the town. He also built a fort, now in ruins, but the fortification walls can be seen on the east of the town. He also built three forts in the neighboring villages on the name of his three sons.

Two important monuments are noteworthy - one is a stone pillar and second is a small Humayun's Mosque. The presence of this stone pillar, which might be erected by Ashoka at Agroha or Hansi, depicts the obsession of Firoz Shah Tugleq to take away such pillars and columns and establish them at his favourite place. The pillar, measuring about 5 metres in height and 1. 90 metres in circumference at the base, was once engraved with the Ashokan epigraph but later on chiselled off systematically for writing the Tughlaq's inscription recording the genealogy of Firoz Shah in beautiful Tughra Arabic characters carved in high belief.

The other monument is a small and beautiful mosque known as Humayun Mosque. It is said that Mughal Emperor Humayun, after his defeat at the hands of Sher Shah Suri happened to pass through Fatehabad, had prayed at this mosque. The inscription praising Emperor Humayun was originally found here and later on studded into the screen-wall of the Idgah. Some Nur Rehmat is said to have repaired this mosque in the early eighties of the last century.
