Know About the Town

District Fatehabad is located in the south western part of Haryana, India on national highway no. 10. The Fatehbad town was founded by the emperor Firoze Shah Tughlaq and named after his son Fateh Khan in 1352 AD. The site on which the town was founded was a hunting ground. He dug a channel from the river Ghaggar in order to supply the town with water. He also built a fort which is now in ruins, the fortification walls can be seen on the east. of the town. He also built three forts in the neighboring villages in the name of his three sons. The old town was surrounded by a wall which has been dismantled to a great extent except near the fort.

    The Fatehabad district was carved out of Hisar district on 15 July1997. It is surrounded by Punjab in North, district Hisar in south, district Jind in East and Rajasthan and district Sirsa in the West. A seasonal river Ghaggar flows through Ratia and Jakhal towns of the district enriching its soil for the production of cotton, paddy, pulses and sun-flower. The climate of the district is of tropical type with intensively hot summer and cool winter, with a temperature of 47 degree C in June and 2 degree C in December and January. Occasional fogs affect the district in the cold season. Animal Wealth of the district is murrah buffalo and dale sheep. 

    Fatehabad is divided into 5 blocks: Fatehabad, Bhattu, Ratia, Tohana, Bhuna.The first historical record of the administrative division of the district is found in Aain-i-Akbri. The two important monuments in Fatehbad are the Firoza Lat and the Humayun Mosque. Humayun Mosque is a small and a beautiful mosque. It has association with Mughal Emperor Humayun who on his flight after his defeat at the hands of Sher Shah Suri happened to pass through Fatehbad on Friday and is said to have prayed at this mosque. The inscription praising Emperor Humayun was originally found here and later studded into the screen-wall of the Idgah. The mosque is said to have been repaired by one Nur Rehmat in the early eighties of the last century. Two important archaeological sites have been found in the district. They are the Kunal Mound and the Banawali Mound.

How to Reach: Fatehabad is easily approachable. It is about 220 kms away from national capital New Delhi and about 225 kms away from state capital Chandigarh. Tehsil Tohana and Bhattu Block of Fatehabad district are well connected by broad gauge railway with Punjab, Delhi and district Sirsa(Haryana). National Highway No.10 connects Fatehabad with Delhi and Punjab. Nearest stoppage of major national trains are Tohana and Dabwali (district Sirsa). Nearest International air-port is New Delhi.

Fatehabad has two bus stops old bus stand and new bus stand. So be aware where to get down if you are coming by bus. It is well connected to bus route because it is situated on national highway.

Where to stay: There are facilities for stay at Public Welfare Department rest house, Haryana State Electricity Board rest house, Market committee rest house, Kisan Rest House, dharamsalas, Haryana tourism's Papiha tourist complex, hotels. These are situated on prime locations and can be traced out easily. Accommodation is available easily if there is no season of political rally, marriages. 

Where to Eat : Lots of restaurants, dhabas and eat-outs are there in Fatehabad offering delicious food but not as much variety as big city hotels. You would surely relish local flavors which is nutritious and delicious. 

What to Buy: You can buy clothes, hand-woven dari(carpet), jewellery, art objects, hand made jootis (shoes) etc.

Best Time to Visit : Although you can enjoy Fatehabad any time yet Oct to March is considered good time. Winter starts from Dec till Feb and this is festival season also. Time after rains i.e. July-August is also good. At this time you can enjoy greenery.
